Chanel the making

You’ve probably seen the beautiful Chanel spring campaign by now, where Joan Smalls and Saskia de Brauw perform gymnastics hanging above the sea, seen through the lens of Lagerfeld himself. Here’s a behind-the-scene-video from the shot that took place in Cap d’Antibes, and if you’re not already longing for summer by the sea, this might get you started….

Mulberry’s Spring 2012 ads are beachy keen

Spring ads are always my personal favorite, and the newly released Mulberry Spring 2012 campaign is a perfect illustration of why. If you don’t look at these photos and feel a fierce need for a floppy straw hat and a lobster roll (in addition to a new bag, of course), then you and I can’t be friends. What we have here is a bright, shining beacon of spring fashion hopefulness.

The ads, lensed by Tim Walker and featuring Frida Gustavsson and Lindsey Wixson on England’s Brighton Beach, are full of optimism and wonderment in the form of whimsically oversized ice cream cones and playful beachside shenanigans. Naturally, bags take a central role in all of the fun, with the seafoam and black snakeskin option standing out as the leader of the pack. The rest of the images can be found after the jump.

Inside Marc's World

Louis Vuitton's hotly-anticipated  Marc Jacobs exhibition will open at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris on March 9 until September 16. A celebration of the designer's 15-year-long reign at the luxury label, the exhibition will be curated by leading fashion author and lecturer Pamela Golbin.
Marc Jacobs with Kate Moss backstage at his spring/summer 2012 Louis Vuitton show

This exhibition tells the stories of two men, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs (artistic director of LV), and will highlight their contributions to the fashion world. How did they succeed in taking the pulse of their respective periods to innovate and take an entire industry forward? How did these two personalities, each with their own language, appropriate cultural phenomena and codes to write the history of contemporary fashion? An analysis rather than a retrospective, this parallel Vuitton-Jacobs comparison will provide new insight into the fashion system during its pivotal periods, beginning with its industrialisation and ending with its globalisation, focussing also on its artistic professions and crafts, technological advances, stylistic creations and artistic collaborations. It will also be homecoming for Louis Vuitton, who set up shop only a stone’s throw from the Louvre, the home of his first great patron, Empress Eugénie. Over a century separates Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs, but both come together in the excellence of their creativity.

Athens Xclusive Designers Week - Save the date

Mila Kunis is the new face of Christian Dior

The 'Black Swan' actress stars in the French luxury label's spring campaign, toting the new Miss Dior handbag.
This time last year, 28-year-old Mila Kunis was smouldering from every red carpet at every awards ceremony in town. Her turn in Black Swan earned her numerous 'Best Supporting Actress' nominations and awards, and now, she's secured her most stylish role to date for Christian Dior.

Kunis was captured by photographer Mikael Jansson for the campaign and told Womens Wear Daily how she is "Honestly just learning about fashion." More of a "jeans and T-shirt" kind of girl, She explains her style as: "In my daily life, I don't wear the most feminine pieces. But I love to feel feminine when I'm on the red carpet."
Dior's deputy general manager, Delphine Arnault, explained why she was so taken with Ukranian-born Kunis: "Mila Kunis is a very talented young actress; she embodies the true modern woman. Her performance in Black Swan was remarkable. She is very gifted."It appears that Dior were completely taken with the cast of Black Swan on the whole - signing up Kunis's co-star Natalie Portman, who went on to win an Oscar for her lead performance, to front their Miss Dior Chérie fragrance in March 2011.

Kunis can be seen modelling new versions of the French fashion house's Miss Dior handbag, and follows in the footsteps of Oscar winner Marion Cotillard.Delphine Arnault added that Dior are looking forward to "a long relationship" with Kunis, who in turn finds Dior's designs "so sophisticated, feminine and beautiful."
I can't wait to see what Dior rustles up for Kunis's upcoming turns on the red carpet…

Far from the Madding Crowd

The 1967 film Far from the Madding Crowd was the touchpoint for the darkly aristocratic Pre-Fall 2012 McQ collection. A rich olive green — found on anoraks, military-tinged riding jackets, and quilted biker coats — along with a smattering of tweed and cable knit lent an English countryside vibe, while high-neck collars, ruffled blouses, and fit-and-flare silhouettes added a dose of primness. This being McQ, there was still plenty of accessible edge: wide black belts, cropped leather gloves, and moody prints.
